What we usually find
These are the faults we find most often when a fridge stops cooling. You do not need to work out which one it is. That is our job.
A fan has stopped
One fan moves cold air from the freezer into the fridge and another pushes heat out at the back. If either stops, the fridge warms up, often while the freezer still feels cold. We replace the fan motor on the spot.
The coils have iced over
In frost free fridges a heater melts the ice off the cooling coils a few times a day. When the heater, its sensor or the timer fails, ice blocks the air flow. We fix the defrost part and clear the ice.
A faulty sensor or thermostat
The fridge thinks it is cold enough and stops cooling. We test it and replace it if needed.
The compressor will not start
If the fridge clicks but will not run, it is often the start relay or overload, which is a quick fix. If the compressor itself has failed, we tell you whether it is worth repairing.
A gas leak
A slow loss of gas means the fridge cools less each week. We will tell you what it needs and the price before any work starts.

Most repairs are done on the spot with parts from the van. Our work has a 12 month warranty.
Before you call
- Check the temperature setting has not been bumped to a warmer number.
- Make sure food is not blocking the air vents inside, and that there is a gap behind the fridge for air.
Anything past these checks is a job for us. Please do not take off back panels, touch the gas pipes or pull out wiring. Fridges have high voltage parts and a sealed gas system, and a wrong move can turn a simple repair into a new fridge.

How long will my food last?
Keep the doors shut. As a rough guide, food in a closed fridge stays cold for about four hours. If you are unsure about meat, dairy or leftovers, throw them out.
Can you come today?
Often, yes. A warm fridge is urgent, so call early and we will do our best to get to you the same day.
My fridge is old. Is it worth fixing?
