What we usually find

When a frost free freezer builds up ice, we usually find one of these.

Defrost heater has failed

The heater melts the frost off the coils a few times a day. When it fails, ice builds up behind the panel and then spreads into the freezer. We replace it.

Defrost sensor or timer

The heater is fine but is never told to switch on. We test and replace the faulty part.

The door is not sealing

A worn seal, a sagging door or a fridge that is not level lets moist air in. We replace the seal and level the fridge.

A blocked drain

Melt water cannot get away, so it freezes again in the bottom of the freezer. We clear the drain.

What happens when we come out

  1. You call or text

Tell us the brand, the model if you have it, and what the fridge is doing. We book a time that suits you.

  2. We find the fault

The technician tests the fridge at your home and tells you what is wrong in plain words.

  3. You approve the price

You get the full price before we start. If it is not worth fixing, we tell you.

  4. We fix it

Most repairs are done on the spot with parts from the van. Our work has a 12 month warranty.

Before you call

  • Check the freezer door shuts fully and the seal is not torn.
  • Please do not chip ice with a knife or screwdriver. It is easy to pierce a gas line, and that ends the fridge.

Anything past these checks is a job for us. Please do not take off back panels, touch the gas pipes or pull out wiring. Fridges have high voltage parts and a sealed gas system, and a wrong move can turn a simple repair into a new fridge.

Questions about this repair

Can I just defrost it myself?

You can, and it will work for a while. But in a frost free fridge the ice will come back until the faulty part is fixed.

How long does the repair take?

Most defrost repairs take about an hour, plus time to melt the ice if it is thick.

Why is there frost on my frozen food?

Frost on food usually means warm, moist air is getting in, often from a worn door seal.
